Chi Town Book Girl

I mainly started Chi Town Book Girl, because while I’m reading a book, I get so many different ideas and opinions that swirl around in my head. By the time I finish the book, I’m busting at the seams to let it all out.

The fun thing about reviews (and life) is that no two people approach it exactly the same. That’s what makes everything so fun! With the vast amount of book review blogs out there, you can gain a different perspective from each one. That being said, I sincerely hope I can help a fellow bookworm find their next favorite read. Maybe you’ll find the content in my blog useful, maybe not. But at the very least, I hope you find it entertaining.

C.B.C. Publishing

The Discerning Reader

There never seems to be enough time in the day to read, let alone find something good to read. Well, as The Discerning Reader, my purpose is to recommend good books you can sink into so you’re not slogging your way through a book filled with typos or trying to dissect a plot with more holes than a block of Swiss cheese. I post once a week on Sundays recommending books that got at least a four-star rating from me (rarely do I post a negative review–I’m all about sharing the love). My favorite genres include fantasy, romance, YA, and books set in Japan. I also have a deep-seated love for graphic novels and manga and will often recommend these as well. Authors are welcome to send me their books for review; information about what I accept and my review policy can be seen on my “Contact” page.

Story Mummy

My blog is about the 2 of the most enriching things in a child’s life: reading books and travelling. Both of these are 2 sides of the same coin, in my opinion, as it’s seeing the world, learning about others and experiencing something new. I review kids picture books of all levels, which me and my children have read and enjoyed together (ergo, I’ll only review a book that I’ve enjoyed). Moreover, instead of a rating system, I put “Teachable Takeaways”, which include ideas for further learning and enrichment activities that can be done with your child using the concepts in this picture book.

I particularly love and look for books that feature diverse characters and issues of diversity and accessibility; kids encyclopedias; books that teach qualities like kindness and empathy; alphabet books; STEM concept books.

My blog also features my forthcoming picture book, “Wonder Walk”, to be published by Iguana Books in Spring 2019.
