You will find book reviews, book lists, author recommendations, monthly lists of books I’ve finished, and more here. A Thin Slice of Anxiety

Welcome to A Thin Slice of Anxiety. A blog detailing the chronicles of a book addict.
Here you will find a collection of book reviews that will hopefully inspire you to lead a fuller life, to challenge yourself, empathize more with others and grow stronger.
I try to focus on unusual books, things you may have never heard of, or were too intimidated to read, either because of reputation or size. Although to be honest I will read anything that grabs my attention then and there.
I don’t believe that great books can only be appreciated exclusively by academics, I also don’t believe that you need a degree to appreciate philosophy or ‘difficult writers’. You certainly don’t need to attend a university to appreciate fiction, or to understand the power that a good book has upon the reader.
I realize also that while there are many blogs out there dealing with books, few of them are focusing on difficult texts, or on the books that many have called the most important, the greatest, and fewer still on controversial books, especially those dealing explicitly with Sex and Death, the only two topics worth discussing, as Peter Greenaway put it.
I fully agree with him, and I don’t believe in self censorship, and many books on this blog will be controversial – maybe even dangerous (all the good books are)
Life is too short to read bullshit, as I’m sure you’ll agree. So go and read and let me know what you think.

Coffee and a Book Chick

Coffee. Book. What’s not to love with that?

By day, Coffee and a Book Chick (also known as Natalie) is a mommy, a cancer survivor, an entrepreneur, a writer, and an artist. Finding herself with hours in an airport or hotel, or after the little one falls asleep, reading becomes a major source of excitement. She has 16 years in Corporate Business in both the staffing and health industries specializing in operations, contract compliance, project management, communication, and recruiting, 4 years as a cancer survivor, 5 years as a mommy, and 9 years married to a super-hero, this Coffee and a Book Chick also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland in English with a minor in Creative Writing.

She wholeheartedly believes in the old adage that if you don’t like to read, it’s because you just haven’t found the right book.

Here i’m writing reviews & enjoying just another bookish aspect in my life.

I enjoy working with new authors as well as more experienced authors and publishing companies. The one thing I love most about writing is that it heals me. It provides the ability to express my inner thoughts and heal others in the process.

I love Reading

I mainly enjoy reading Crime Fiction, Mystery, Suspence with the odd Chick lit book thrown in to balance me out.
I also enjoy reading the odd Autobiography.
I’ve always tried to leave book reviews over the years, but have recently found a little more enjoyment in leaving them. And through reading and reviewing have made some great friends, i’ve become VIRTUAL friends with a number of Authors and fellow bloggers, and its so nice when you get a random message from them just asking “how you doing” so it seemed the next step to take was trying to compose some sort of book blog for my reviews. I’m new to all this blogging lark, lol. I have a face book page where I leave my reviews and then recently started doing the same on Twitter. I’ve used Goodreads for a few years but only started using that so my Mum an Mother-in-law knew what books i’d got, and what not to buy as we kept buying the same ones.
Anyway things just seem to be growing and slowly progressing.
I was over the moon last year when an author sent me a mobi copy of her book for my kindle before it was released in exchange for an honest review, I was then sent a signed copy of a paperback book and again asked for an honest review. I thouroghly enjoyed doing it and felt like I was making a difference in some way. I’ve since had numerous people contacting me asking me to review books and if I feel it is something i would read, I will do it.
(if you would like me to review a book for you please use the contact form on here)
Hardback, Paperback or Mobi for Kindle
But please remember I do this because I want to, because I enjoy reading. I read at my pace and read what I want to read next. I will not be pressured into reading and rushing a book.
